Overdue Procedures

When items have been overdue for one week, the patron will be sent an e-mail.
When items have been overdue for four weeks, the patron will be sent a second e-mail.
At two months overdue, the patron will be sent an overdue notice in the mail that includes the replacement cost information, the RSA pertaining to not returning library materials and a copy of this overdue policy.
At three months overdue, the same notice including that privileges have been revoked will be sent. If the fee to replace missing items is greater than $75, this notices will be sent via certified mail, and the patron or responsible parent/guardian will be required to pay $10.00 to cover the cost of the certified letter before borrowing privileges are reinstated.
At four months overdue, if the fee to replace missing items is greater than $200, the authorities will be notified and may be sent to the home to retrieve overdue materials.
Additionally, in extreme cases, the Salisbury Free Library Board of Trustees may consider taking a patron to Small Claims Court.
Returned Checks
If a check intended to pay fines or pay for the replacement of a book cannot be cashed, the patron’s borrowing privileges will be revoked immediately and the patron will be invoiced for the amount due plus any fees incurred by the Salisbury Free Library.
